There were speeches, chants, poetry and song in the name of peace on Monday.

The 27th annual Memorial Day Interfaith Service of Remembrance and Peace brought together about 60 people of different backgrounds and faiths at Christ Church Cathedral downtown with one goal in mind — to make the world a more peaceful place.

The service was sponsored by Interfaith Paths to Peace, which aims to bring people of different traditions together to promote peace in the community and beyond.

One of the speakers was Russell Vandenbroucke, a professor of theatre arts at the University of Louisville who will become the director of the new Peace, Justice and Conflict Transformation program at U of L in July.
